Snapchat and Instagram Temporarily disable GiF feature on their platforms

Snapchat and instagram removes GIF

GiFs have become an integral part of Social media and people love sharing GiFs as they are funny and expressive on their Instagram and Snapchat but Now Snapchat and Facebook-owned Instagram have “Temporarily disable” their GiF sharing feature on their platform as it was promoting Racism.

Instagram and Snapchat had both introduced this feature in February that allowed users to add GIFS from the GIFHY Directory to their pictures and stories.

Many Users reported that a GiF on the platform which was promoting Racism and was available as an option for Users to Add to their photographs, A 21-year-old Snapchat User from England saw it first in the library. The GiF on Snapchat appeared to suggest that millions of death are caused by Black people committing crimes with a number count continuously rising.

A similar form of Racist GiF was also seen on Instagram indicating that GIFHY was at fault as per TechCrunch.

We are very Sorry, the GiF should have never appeared in Snapchat, Our team has worked with GiFHY to have the GiF removed and it will no longer appear and We are Working on removing GIFHY from the platform until we can be assured that this will never happen again said, A Snapchat spokesman said.

Commenting on the incident, Instagram Spokesman Said – This type of content on Instagram has no place on Instagram as a result, we have stopped our integration with GIFHY as they investigate the issue.
