Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus with the highlighting feature being the ‘Infinity Display‘ and Samsung Bixby.
Samsung’s own Digital assistant, Bixby comes with a dedicated button, it is also present in Galaxy Note 8 which launched last month. but now it looks like Samsung is taking a back foot from its digital assistant.
A report from TechCrunch confirmed that Samsung is not letting Galaxy S8 and Note 8 users disable the Bixby home button, the button until now let users launch its Home hub. a long press on it lets them activate Voice, as a firmware update, Samsung is now reportedly giving users the options to disable the Bixby Home hub functionality when they tap on the button.Unfortunately, the button cannot be programmed to launch any other app or service.To Recall – Bixby was introduced as one of the highlighted features this year by Samsung in the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus. While the ‘Infinity’ display was well received by customers, the digital assistant faced some flak as a main feature, Bixby Voice was still under tests and was not made available for all.
However, with the launch of the Galaxy Note 8 in August, the company made the Voice feature available for users, the digital assistant is aimed to take on the likes of Google Assistant, Apple Siri, Microsoft Cortana and Amazon Alexa.
